INTRODUCTION
God has servants He has made covenants with throughout time.
There is the Noahic Covenant through Noah pertaining to loyalty.
There is the Abrahamic Covenant through Abraham pertaining to the land.
There is the Mosaic Covenant through Moses pertaining to the law.
There is the Davidic Covenant through David pertaining to the lineage.
There is the New Covenant through the Redeemer, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, pertaining to life.
But…behind the Covenant servants there are other servants.
Three are wives, one is a sister, and one is a mother.
Behind the Noahic Covenant is Mrs. Noah.
Behind the Abrahamic Covenant is Sarah.
Behind the Mosaic Covenant is Miriam.
Behind the Davidic Covenant is Bathsheba.
Behind the New Covenant is Mary,
the mother of our Lord and Savior.
All these women would appear to be unlikely candidates for much of anything.
These servants behind the servants, were ordinary everyday women. The conditions in which they lived were anything but perfect. Two would appear way too old for the job needed. One, way too young. One has a critical spirit and one is a little too seductive for her own good.
One had to make the choice as to whether to sink or swim. She becomes a keeper to all birds, animals, and every creeping thing while staying afloat.
One follows her husband into the great unknown. In doing so, she becomes known as the ‘mother of all nations’.
One chose to cross a desert with her two ‘little’ brothers, along with approximately 2,000,000 oppressed people. She is the first woman to be called a prophetess.
One becomes pregnant and moves to a king’s palace. She eventually becomes known as ‘queen mother’.
One becomes pregnant opening the way to the King’s Heavenly Kingdom. She is the mother of our Lord and Savior, the Messiah, Jesus Christ.
No one will argue the fact that we live in difficult days. But, the days leading up to the flood were; “corrupt and the earth was filled with violence”. (Gen. 6:11). Just ask Mrs. Noah.
The days, and years, of waiting for the ‘heir’ to be born were confusing and troublesome. Just ask Sarah.
The days, and years, in which the tabernacle needed to be built so God could dwell among the people were hard also, as they waited for God to lead them in the wilderness. Just ask Miriam.
Life took a hurtful turn in the loss of a husband and then a firstborn son. Just ask Bathsheba.
Being a teenage bride and mother, then a young widow watching your perfect first born crucified before your eyes would certainly fall under; difficult times. Just ask Mary.
These remarkable women all awoke one morning and their life and those that followed after them, for all generations, up to and including today, were forever changed.
As you read their stories, imagine their lives.
These women show in a powerful way,
God’s purpose, God’s plan,
and God’s power on display.
